Home Sweet Home
Gospel Collection
CHORUS:
Higher than the bluest sky…surely I have flown
On the wings of some white dove…Home Sweet Home
VERSE 1:
I’m slowly selling everything…everything I own
‘Cause I’ll be leaving in the morn…for Home Sweet Home
VERSE 2:
I think I’ll keep my fiddle…and keep the guitar too
And they might find a mandolin…hidden in my shoe
REPEAT CHORUS:
VERSE 3:
I hope to see my mother…and see the old man too
It’s time we got to know each other…after all we’ve been through
VERSE 4:
So watch for me on full moon nights…when all the hound dogs bay
Put me on the back porch…see how long I stay
REPEAT CHORUS / REPEAT LAST LINE

Supposed To Be Music
This song was written in 1988 during a spiritual moment. I included it in a batch of “bird songs” I recorded that year for a cassette/album project sponsored by The Children’s Bookshop in Brookline, Massachusetts. The white dove imagery seemed to somehow qualify it to be a part of that collection…called A Bird On The Wing In Iowa. ( See my previous Substack post for that song ). All the songs for that project were recorded at Junior’s Motel studio in Otho, Iowa with owner Kirk Kaufman engineering everything “live to 2 track”. Dave Hearn played piano & accordion, Brian Nelson played bass, and Kris Karr played drums, acoustic guitar, harmonica, and sang harmony. This was the “Billy Buffalo Band” I had been using to do live gigs whenever we could find them in northwest Iowa.

By 2014 I had written a number of “gospel flavored” songs….enough to warrant a new collection I released on CD-R using Home Sweet Home as the title song. In 2021 I used DistroKid to distribute this project to all the streaming services where you can still access them anytime you like.
The songs in this collection include several I have already written about here on the Substack platform….please check my archives for those posts:
