When I get an idea for a song it often starts with “the hook” or title. It can also be a fragment of melody or a chord progression, but the Nashville boys taught me that the hook is really what helps folks remember the song. Sometime it works a little too well and I just can’t get the song out of my brain. This is my latest tune, hot off the press….I started working on it on the last day of 2024 and finished the recording on January 2. I played all the instruments and overdubbed the vocal harmonies. Here’s the result:
This is how the song lays out with chords. I use a program called OnSong on my Ipad to create these charts. Please feel free to hum along or create your own version.
It’s been thirty years since my younger brother passed away, but I think of him often. He was ten years younger than me, the baby of the family. Here’s one of my favorite pictures of him with his own daughter.
Tony & Caroline
Here’s a picture of our mom at the piano with us kids before Tony even arrived. It was perfect for the cover another song project I completed in 2014.
The Gift Of Song recordings were made with the help of my Virtual Buffalo Band…..two amazing musicians who agreed to bring these songs to life by trading files over the internet. Producer and multi-instrumentalist Denny Osburn did most of the heavy lifting at his Kansas City studio, and Kenny Putnam added fiddle and mandolin at his home studio in Rapid City, South Dakota. Please check out my previous Substack post The Gift Of Song for the whole story. I have uploaded many of my projects to the streaming services through DistroKid so you can find them on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and YouTube. Enjoy, leave a comment, & share.
Thanks for reading and listening this far. Hope this new tune sticks in your head!
Good to know where these songs come from. Nice job on all the parts.
