Time to Move

I started writing this song on September 30, 2023 while clearing out our “Big Blue” house in Fort Dodge, Iowa. We had gotten broken into while we were in Florida during the winter of 2022 and decided to sell the house and make the Sunshine State our permanent home. It took us three months to sort through the place….saving what we couldn’t part with, selling what could be sold, and giving away the rest. We were getting close to heading back to Gulfport when this song arrived. It summed up my feelings about old “Dogtown” at the time. I recorded a rough guitar/vocal video on my phone and posted it on YouTube in October of 2023.

When we arrived back in Gulfport and got everything unpacked I created a multi-track demo of the song in November of 2023. I used ProTools to record and mix the tracks….my trusty Martin acoustic, snare drum, & bass, and then added trumpet, piano and trombone created with my Yamaha keyboard. Check it out:
